As hard as I try to keep my skin looking as perfect as possible, a pimple still sometimes manages to make its way through to my face. And they're always prominently displayed somewhere on my forehead, cheek or chin. Because of this, I need to make sure they're gone as fast as possible so I can go back to my regularly scheduled life.
I've always been a fan of Tea Tree Oil and recently started playing with Peppermint Essential Oil. With Tea Trea Oil, I would mix with Argan Oil and apply to my entire face as part of my everyday skincare routine. Mix both Tea Tree Oil and Peppermint Essential Oil and you have yourself a super effective zit zapper!
This DIY Zit Zapper is pretty simple and you only need a few items.
1. Roller ball bottle - to place your oils and easy application
2. Tea Tree Oil
3. Peppermint Oil
In the roller ball bottle, you'll want to add 3/4 Tea Tree Oil and some dashes of Peppermint Essential Oil. Peppermint Essential is especially potent and you'll find that the smell will overpower the Tea Tree Oil. Keep in mind that Tea Tree Oil can be drying, so you're only going to want to use this on your pimple, not all over your skin. Plus, the menthol will make your eyes water...I know this first hand.
Why is this so effective?
Peppermint oil has a wide range of uses and benefits for both external and internal use. When I was younger and suffered from a sour stomach, my mom would steep peppermint leaves in hot water and have me drink this soothing tea. It's anti-inflammatory properties makes it ideal for sour tummies and a range of other issues. As far as acne goes, being anti-inflammatory helps to reduce the redness, it's antiseptic and antibacterial properties are ideal for killing the acne causing bacteria. It also helps to decrease the production of sebum.
Tea Tree Oil is extremely powerful and can be drying to your skin, so you want to use this sparingly. If you're going to use it all over your skin, then you want to add it to a carrier oil such as Argan Oil so that it doesn't dry you out. But it does help in maintaining your skin's overall look. I like it to keep any breakouts from occurring. Tea Tree Oil is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic, so it's great for killing bacteria and has a myriad of other uses on your skin such as using on cuts and bug bites. This is external use only, unlike peppermint oil.
Day 1 of the pimple, ruining my life and not letting me be great!
I dab the zit zapping mixture with Tea Tree Oil and Peppermint Oil directly on the pimple a few times per day and right before going to bed. I also apply to places where there is any redness on my face and where I think a pimple might be starting to erupt.
The zit zapper is very cooling to the skin because of the menthol and helps to soothe those painful acne that you get under your skin, especially the ones you get on your chin.
You can also use this to reduce cold sores and fever blisters. Read about how effective it is here and here.
Day 2 after applying the zit zapper to my pimple. It's a lot smaller and almost gone.
By day 3 the zit zapper diminished my pimple and by day 4 it was completely gone.
I keep the roller ball in my purse at all times because you never know when acne will strike and you always want to be prepared. Heck, I say keep one in every room.
